October 2-6

This is Review Week. No reading story or vocabulary words.
  • This week's focus skill is again author's purpose and perspective.
  • This week's grammar skill is Greek and Latin word parts. There will be a grammar quiz on Thursday.
  • There will be a spelling test on Friday, October 6. The spelling words are astronomy, astronaut, chronic, chronological, chronicle, cyclical, cyclone, hydrant, hydrate, optical, optician, tractor, attract, rupture, interrupt, erupt, audible, audio, dictate, and verdict.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set.
  • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday. I also graded the entire homework questions for the story Interrupted Journey. All of the answers were from the story, so I graded the assignment as a separate grade for the week. I had lots and lots of 100s!!!!
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday.
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc. I will continue to sign conduct folders for failure to bring materials to class, failure to return signed papers, behavior, etc!
  • Not signing D/F test papers (violation 1.13) is getting the students in the most trouble. Please ask your student daily if they need anything signed.
  • Let me know if you need me in any way!

  • Coming Up Soon:
    • Wednesday, October 4 Picture Day
    • Friday, October 6 Vocabulary Parade. Make sure your child has the vocabulary word visible on their costume.
    • Monday-Friday: October 2-6 Book Fair
    • Monday-Wednesday: October 9-11 Fall Break
Please send to school with your child an inexpensive pair of head phones or ear buds for computer lab. Thanks to everyone who has already sent them in.

Remember if your child is absent, I need a parent's or doctor's excuse when they return.
