December 10-14

This week we are reviewing the reading standard of main idea and details.
  • There is no more homework for this 9 weeks. For the rest of the year, I will only be sending home the homework with the students who tell me they plan on doing it. I am losing dozens of copies of homework that these students are taking, not completing, and not returning my copy.
  • There will be a reading test on Thursday, December 13th. It will consist of cold read passages and question sets.
  • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, December 11th. They will be bringing home a grammar, spelling, and reading test.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Thursday the 13th. 
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, tests, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.

Remember if your child is absent, I need a parent's or doctor's excuse when they return. Remember students are only allowed 10 parent excuses for the year. After 10 parent excuses, students will not be allowed to make up ANY missed work or tests. They will receive zeros on these assignments and tests.

This week we are reviewing the reading standard of main idea and details and the grammar standard of punctuating titles of works correctly.
  • Homework goes home on Monday, December 3rd and is due on Friday, December 7th. Remember homework is optional, but if correct, bonus points will be rewarded.
  • This is the 2nd 9 weeks' spelling words: unsuccessful, undoubtedly, impossibly, disloyalty, deactivation, unlikable, replacement, unsafely, uncollectible, immeasurable, impassible, encouragement, unbelievable, unselfishly, rearrangement, discoverable, dishonestly, unbreakable, reappearance, reassurance. This spelling test is Friday, December 7th.
  • There will be a grammar test on Thursday, December 6th.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday, December 7th. It will consist of 2 cold read passages and question sets.
  • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, December 4th.

This week is review week. We will be reviewing the reading standard of Cause and Effect. It was continuously missed while we were working on text structure. There will be no grammar standard this week because of the short week.
  • Homework will go home on Tuesday the 13th and is not due until Friday the 16th. Remember homework is optional, but is bonus points if completed correctly.
  • This week's story is A Drop of Water to help review cause and effect. A study guide will go home on Tuesday, the 13th.
  • This week's vocabulary words are:
elongates: stretches to a longer length
elastic: stretches easily
rigid: stiff and does not change shape easily
accumulate: collect over time
underlying: located below or beneath something
intricate: complicated or involved and has many small parts or details
vanish: to disappear suddenly
replenishing: refilling it or making it complete again

    August 20-24

  • There will not be a story from the reading textbook this week. We will be doing various activities reviewing the reading standard: conflict, plot, and resolution.
  • Reading homework goes home on Monday, but is not due until Friday. Remember it is not required.
  • There will be a reading quiz on Friday that consist of a cold read passage and question set.
  • We are still working on idioms in grammar. There will be a short quiz on idioms on Friday.
  • Tests from last Friday will go home on Tuesday of this week. Remember if your child makes a D (60-69) or and F (59 or below), you must sign and return that test by Friday of this week.

  • I am still accepting the $35.00 classroom donations.

    August 13-17

    First off I would like to thank you all for such a great first week of school. All the students were very well behaved and very responsible in getting all of the paperwork signed and returned. There is additional paperwork that will go home this week, so please sign and return the next day.

  • We are running a regular routine this week, so if you have any questions please let me know!
  • This week's reading story is Rope Burn.
  • This week's reading standard is conflict, plot, and resolution.
  • This week's vocabulary words are humiliation, fringes, expectations, coaxed, sincere, and hesitating.
  • This week's grammar skill is idioms.
  • Homework goes home on Mondays. The homework is not due until Fridays. Homework is not required, but can be bonus points on their test grades. If your child chooses not to complete the homework, I still need them to return the homework sheet and the copy of the story on Friday.
  • There is a reading test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage including problem/solution questions and idiom questions, comprehension questions about Rope Burn and vocabulary sentences.

    • I am still accepting classroom donation of $35.00. Thanks to the parents of Brooks, Morgan, Landon, Natalie, Aaliyah, Mason, and Caelyx for already sending in the donation.

    We finished the book Bridge to Terabithia! It was should a great read and all the students really enjoyed it!

    Monday: Book Test on Bridge to Terabithia     Chapter 12 and 13 quizzes goes home
    Tuesday: Watch the movie Bridge to Terabithia
    Wednesday: Finish watching the movie. Complete compare and contrast movie vs. book activity together.        Book test goes home
    Thursday: Chapter 1-3 of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
    Friday: Chapter 4-6 of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
               .
    • There will be a grammar test on Monday, April 16th on 4 types of sentences. 
    • We will also be reviewing poetry standards. 
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below) on any tests, please sign the test and return.
