October 30-November 3

THANKS to everyone that sent in candy for the Candy Crash.

  • This week's story is The Night of San Juan.
  • This week's genre is realistic fiction.
  • This week's focus skill is theme.
  • This week's vocabulary words are wistful, grateful, irresistible, revelers, grim, raspy, and swarmed.
  • The week's grammar skill is commas.

    • Homework goes home on Monday, October 30 and is due on Thursday, November 2. I grade part of the homework, so please make sure it is correct.
    • There will be a reading test on Thursday, November 2nd this week because of the fall festival on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set, comprehension questions from this week's story, and vocabulary sentences.
    • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 31st.
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 3rd. 
    • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc. I will continue to sign conduct folders for failure to bring materials to class, failure to return signed papers, leaving belongings in my class, behavior, etc!
    • Not signing D/F test papers (violation 1.13) is getting the students in the most trouble. Please ask your student daily if they need anything signed.
    • Let me know if you need me in any way!

    Coming Up Soon:

    Field trip information went home on Monday, October 16th. Our field trip to American Village is Wednesday, November 29th. Money and permissions slip are due by Wednesday, November 8th.
    • Fall festival this Friday, November 3rd. Armbands are $13.00. Face painting is $3.00.

    Please send to school with your child an inexpensive pair of head phones or ear buds for computer lab. Thanks to everyone who has already sent them in.

    October 23-27

    This week is review week of Compare and Contrast.
    • Homework goes home on Monday, October 23 and is not due until Friday, October 27.
    • This week's grammar skill of simile, metaphor, and personification is also review.
    • There will be a reading test on Friday, October 27th. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set.
    • There will be a grammar test on Friday, October 27th.
    • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 24th.
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 27th.

    October 12-20

    Hope everyone enjoyed the nice Fall Break.

    • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 17.

    October 2-6

    This is Review Week. No reading story or vocabulary words.
  • This week's focus skill is again author's purpose and perspective.
  • This week's grammar skill is Greek and Latin word parts. There will be a grammar quiz on Thursday.
  • There will be a spelling test on Friday, October 6. The spelling words are astronomy, astronaut, chronic, chronological, chronicle, cyclical, cyclone, hydrant, hydrate, optical, optician, tractor, attract, rupture, interrupt, erupt, audible, audio, dictate, and verdict.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set.
  • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday. I also graded the entire homework questions for the story Interrupted Journey. All of the answers were from the story, so I graded the assignment as a separate grade for the week. I had lots and lots of 100s!!!!
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday.
