August 26-30

Lots of paperwork went home last week, please check take home folders.

  • This week's grammar standard is review of idioms.
  • This week's reading story is Line Drive.
  • This week's reading standard is review of conflict, plot, and resolution.
  • This week's vocabulary words are
  • maven: a maven is someone with special knowledge about a particular subject
    mortified: if you feel mortified, you feel extremely embarrassed or ashamed
    reigned: if someone has reigned, he or she has been very important in a particular place
    conceited: a conceited person thinks too highly of herself or himself
    designated: if a place is designated, it has been chosen for a special purpose
    smirk: a smirk is an unkind smile
    exhilarated: if someone exhilarated you, it makes you feel excited and energetic

  • Homework goes home on Mondays. The homework is not due until Fridays. Homework is not required, but can be bonus points on their test grades. If your child chooses not to complete the homework, I still need them to return the homework sheet and the copy of the story on Friday.
  • Last week's test go home on Tuesday.
  • There is a reading/grammar test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage including problem/solution questions and idiom questions, comprehension questions about Line Drive and vocabulary sentences.


    • I am still accepting classroom donation of $35.00. Thanks to the parents of Hayden, Emma, Kathryn, Austin, Colt, Michaela, Landon, Kendall, Reagan, Jackson, and Dewayne for already sending in the donation.

    August 19-23

    First off I would like to thank you all for such a great first week of school. All the students were very well behaved and very responsible in getting all of the paperwork signed and returned.

  • This week's reading story is Rope Burn.
  • This week's reading standard is conflict, plot, and resolution.
  • This week's vocabulary words are
  • humiliation: a feeling of shame or embarrassment
    fringes: the fringes of a place are areas along its edges, far away from the center of action
    expectations: hopes about how well others will do or about how they should behave
    sincere: if you are being sincere, you are being honest, and you mean what you say
    coaxed: if you are coaxed into doing something, you are gently talked into it by someone else
    hesitating: if your are hesitating you are pausing before doing something because you are feeling unsure
  • This week's grammar skill is idioms.
