September 30-October 4

  • This week's story is The Night of San Juan.
  • This week's genre is realistic fiction.
  • This week's focus skill is theme.
  • This week's grammar skill is compound subjects and predicates.
  • We are taking chapter 2 social studies test this week. Remember all social studies tests are OPEN book!
  • There will be a reading and grammar test on Thursday this week due to early dismissal for Homecoming.
  • Last week's tests come home on Tuesday.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it the next day. 
  • Please check agenda books daily!
  • Your child has reading homework that is due on Thursday of this week.
  • Homework is listed in the agenda books!
  • This week is Homecoming! Please encourage your child to dress up this week!
  • Monday is Super Hero Day! Tuesday is Nerd Day! Wednesday is Color War Day and 5th grade is maroon! Thursday is Camo Day! Friday is Spirit Day!
  • We will dismiss early on Friday at 11:30! If you child goes home a different way on Friday, I need it written in a note!
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc. Some of the students are still getting organized!

    September 23-27

  • This week is Theme Week in reading! We will be taking parts of the theme 1 test all week. We will also be doing some review work throughout the week.
  • Because of this, there will be no new reading story, no new genre, and no new grammar skill. So no homework either!! Please encourage your child to do their best on the theme test!
  • We will be working on a writing response all week and publishing the final draft on Friday. Ask your child what they are writing about!
  • We will be taking Chapter 2 OPEN BOOK social studies test this week. PLEASE encourage your child to use their books! The questions come straight from the textbook! Should have lots of 100s!
  • Progress reports go home on Tuesday, September 24th. Please look over the grades and sign and return as soon as possible.
  • Graded test papers go home every Tuesday! If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return to me the next day!
  • ARMT+ scores from last year will also be with the progress report. You may keep this sheet.
  • Hat day is Wednesday, September 25th. Your child may pay $1.00 to wear their favorite hat all day! All money goes to childhood cancer research! Your child can also wear YELLOW on this day!
  • Title 1 Parent Meeting is Thursday, September 26th.
  • Fall pictures are scheduled for Friday, September 27th.

    • This week's story is The Daring Nellie Bly: America's Star Reporter.
    • This week's genre is biography.
    • This week's focus skill is character's motives.
    • This week's grammar skill is simple/complete subjects and simple/complete predicates.
    • Please have your child wear red, white, and/or blue on Tuesday, September 17th for Constitution/Citizenship Day!
    • 5th Grade will be celebrating Grandparent's Day on Thursday, September 19th in the lunchroom at 11:30. Grandparents can meet us at the lunchroom, since we have such a long walk.
    • We are still working in chapter 2 in social studies this week. Test will probably be some time next week. Remember all social studies tests are OPEN book and page numbers given!
    • There will be a reading and grammar test on Friday.
    • Last week's tests come home on Tuesday, including chapter 1 social studies tests.
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it the next day.

    • Please make sure that your child rereads the weekly story nightly and works on the homework questions. They are due on Friday.
    • Ident-a-kid is Thursday, September 19th! Info came home on Monday!
    • Your child can still join OIS Choir throughout the month of September for $10! The practices are Thursday afternoon until 4:00.

    • We will be completing chapter 1 in social studies this week, so chapter 1 test will be this week!
    • There will be a reading and grammar test on Friday.
    • Please make sure that your child is working on their reading homework throughout the week. It is due on Friday!
    • Please check agenda books daily.
    • Identakid is September 19th.
    • Progress reports go home on September 24th.
    • OIS Open House is September 26th.
