October 28-November 1



This week's reading standard is Review of Text Structure. This week's grammar standard is Review of Commas.
  • Homework goes home on Monday, October 28th and is due on Friday, November 1st. Homework is optional, but if correct bonus points will be added to the reading test grade.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday, November 1st. It will consist of text structure passages and questions. There will be a commas grammar quiz on Friday also.
  • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 29th.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 1st. 
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, quizzes/tests, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.
  • Let me know if you need me in any way!

    Halloween Dance during P.E. Students can wear their costumes. $2.00 to attend
    Candy Crash: Tuesday, October 29th from 5:30-6:30. Please send in individually wrapped candy.  

    Please send to school with your child an inexpensive pair of head phones or ear buds for computer lab. Thanks to everyone who has already sent them in. The supply kits provided them.

     
    Remember if your child is absent, I need a parent's or doctor's excuse within 3 days of them returning. Each student is only allowed 10 parent excuses for the whole school year.

    October 21-25

    Hope everyone had a nice Monday off.

    This week's reading standard is Text Structure. This week's grammar standard is Commas.
  • Homework goes home on Tuesday, October 22nd and is due on Friday, October 25th. Homework is optional, but if correct bonus points will be added to the reading test grade.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday, October 25th. It will consist of identifying the correct text structure. There will be a commas grammar quiz on Friday also.
  • Last week's tests go home on Wednesday, October 23rd.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 25th. 
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, quizzes/tests, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.

    October 14-18

    This week is review week of Compare and Contrast.
    • Homework goes home on Monday, October 14th and is due by Friday, October 18th. Homework is optional, but if correct will be bonus points added to the weekly reading test grade.
    • This week's grammar skill of similes and metaphors is also review.
    • There will be a reading test on Friday, October 18th. It will consist of cold read passages and question set. There will also be simile and metaphor questions for the grammar grade.
    • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 15th. (My Birthday) 
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 18th. 
    • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, failed tests, notes from the school/teachers, etc.  Please ask your student daily if they need anything signed.

    October 7-11

     
    • This week's story is Sailing Home: A Story of a Childhood at Sea. There is a study guide for the similarities and differences for living on land vs. sea. Please study this information.
    • Homework goes home on Monday but is not due until Friday. Remember homework is optional but if correct; bonus points are rewarded.
    • This week's focus skill is Compare and Contrast. 
    • This week's vocabulary words are:                                                                                      dignified: calm, serious, respectful behavior                                                                        rowdy: noisy, rough, out of control behavior                                                                      seldom: hardly ever happens                                                                                              conducted: led or guided an activity                                                                                     shatter: break suddenly and violently                                                                            broached: a ship has veered onto its side                                                                    inflammable: catches on fire easily and burns rapidly
    • This week's grammar skill is similes and metaphors.
    • There will be a reading/grammar test on Friday, October 11th. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set, comprehension questions about Sailing Home, vocabulary sentences, and simile and metaphor questions.
    •  This 9 weeks' spelling test is also Friday, October 11th. These are the spelling words: unsuccessful, undoubtedly, enjoyable, disloyalty, disconnected, unreadable, replacement, unsafely, uncollectible, unhelpful, impassible, encouragement, disrespectful, unselfishly, rearrangement, discoverable, dishonestly, unbreakable, reappearance, unlikable. The students will have had 2 weeks to study.
    • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 8th.
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return. Please ask your student daily if they need anything signed. Tests from the other classes also require to be signed and returned for D and F grades.
    • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, grades, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.
