October 12-20

Hope everyone enjoyed the nice Fall Break.
  • This week's story is Sailing Home: A Story of a Childhood at Sea.
  • Homework for this story goes home on Thursday, October 12 and is not due until Friday, October 20.
  • This week's focus skill is Compare and Contrast.
  • This week's vocabulary words are inflammable, dignified, rowdy, seldom, conducted, shatter, and broached.
  • This week's grammar skill is simile, metaphor, and personification.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday, October 20th. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set, comprehension questions about Sailing Home, and vocabulary sentences.
  • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, October 17.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 20th.
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc. I will continue to sign conduct folders for failure to bring materials to class, failure to return signed papers, leaving belongings in my class, behavior, etc!
  • Not signing D/F test papers (violation 1.13) is getting the students in the most trouble. Please ask your student daily if they need anything signed.
  • Let me know if you need me in any way!

OIS 1st annual Vocabulary Parade was a HUGE success. Thanks to everyone who participated.
