September 30-October 4

  • This week is review week. No reading story. We will be doing activities to reinforce the reading standard.
  • This week's reading standard to review is Cause and Effect.
  • This week's grammar skill to review is homographs.
  • This is the 1st 9 weeks' spelling words: unsuccessful, undoubtedly, enjoyable, disloyalty, disconnected, unreadable, replacement, unsafely, uncollectible, unhelpful, impassible, encouragement, disrespectful, unselfishly, rearrangement, discoverable, dishonestly, unbreakable, reappearance, unlikable. This spelling test is Friday, October 11th. The students have 2 weeks to study.
  •  Reading homework goes home on Monday. It is not due until Friday. Reading homework is not required, but bonus points are rewarded if the ones I choose to grade are correct.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday. It will consist of cold read passages that include cause and effect and homograph questions.
  • Last week's tests will go home on Tuesday.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday.  
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.
  • ALSO, PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD CLEAN OUT THEIR TAKE HOME FOLDERS AND TRAPPER KEEPERS. SOME STUDENTS STILL HAVE WORK IN THEM SINCE 4TH GRADE!!!!

  • This week's grammar skill is homographs.
  • Reading homework goes home on Monday. It is not due until Friday. Homework is not required, but students receive bonus points to the weekly test grade if answers are correct.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set including cause and effect questions and homograph questions, comprehension questions about this week's story, and vocabulary sentences.
  • Last week's tests will go home on Tuesday.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday.  
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.

  • This week is review week. No reading story. No vocabulary words. We will be doing activities to reinforce the reading standard.
  • This week's reading standard to review is Text Structure: Sequence.
  • This week's grammar skill to review is Context Clues.
  •  Reading homework goes home on Monday. It is not due until Thursday. There is an explanation slip attached to the homework. Your child CAN write on the sequencing timeline chart. Homework is not required, (only bonus points rewarded) but it would be nice to have as many timelines completed to display.
  • There will be a reading test on Thursday. It will consist of cold read passages that include sequencing and context clues questions.
  • Last week's tests will go home on Tuesday.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Thursday.  
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.

  • This week's story is When Washington Crossed the Delaware.
  • This week's focus skill is Text Structure: Sequence.
  • This week's vocabulary words are
  • persuading: trying to get someone to agree with your plan or opinion
    crucial: something is extremely important
    maneuvered: to move or guide something very carefully
    encountered: to meet someone unexpectedly
    crisis: a situation that suddenly becomes very dangerous or difficult
    appealed: to make a request using a lot of feeling
    perseverance: trying hard and not giving up
    destiny: certain things will happen because they are meant to.
  • This week's grammar skill is context clues.
  •  Reading homework went home on Monday, but is not due until Friday. Homework is NOT required, but if correct your child will receive bonus points on their reading tests.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage with sequencing questions, questions using context clues, comprehension questions about this week's story, and vocabulary sentences.
  • There was no test last week because of the busy week.    
  • I will set up a homeroom email distribution list as soon as I receive my homeroom information from the office.
