November 7-11

  • This is reteach week in reading. There will be no weekly story, no vocabulary words, and no spelling words.
  • There still will be a grammar (DOL) test on Thursday, November 10. There will also be a reading quiz on Thursday, November 10. The reading test will consist of theme and sequencing questions.
  • There will be a Chapter 4 social studies test on Wednesday, November 9.
  • Progress reports go home on Tuesday, November 8. Please review grades, sign, and return.
  • No School on Friday, November 11!

October 31-November 4

  • This week is Theme Test 2. There is no weekly reading test. Encourage your child to do well on the theme test.
  • This week's spelling words are review. They are bundle, vehicle, struggle, hurtle, triple, hurricane, golden, journey, hospital, excellent, message, arrange, whisper, terrific, expression, conclude, merchandise, technique, accomplish, and goggles.
  • There will still be a DOL test on Friday.
  • We are working on Chapter 4 in Social Studies. Test on Chapter 4 coming soon.
  • Continue to pledge toward the Boosterthon on Friday, November 4. Come out and cheer on the kids on Friday!
  • Thanks to EVERYONE who sent in candy for the Candy Crash. We had so much fun! Looking forward to making that an annual OIS event!
  • We despeately need pencils and pencil sharpeners. I had a nice electric one, but it has been broken! Any donations would be appreciated!

  • OIS Candy Crash is this Tuesday, October 25th from 5:30-7:00. $1 for kids! Thanks to everyone who sent in candy! Also BIG thanks to Taylor's mom for sending in a pumpkin for our class!

  • This week is Homecoming. School will dismiss at 11:45 on Friday, October 28th. Let me know if your child is going home any different way than the usual!

  • Dress up days are: Monday: 50s Day, Tuesday: Backward Day, Wednesday: Camo Day; Thursday: Western Day; and Friday: Spirit Day.

    • The week's story is Lesson 8: When Washington Crossed the Delaware.

    • This week's focus skill is sequence.
    • This week's spelling words are entire, hospital, public, combine, golden, chimney, pretzel, survive, absorb, turmoil, wisdom, journey, condition, whisper, identify, establish, furnace, capture, marvelous, and nursery.
    • This week's grammar skill is prepositions and preposition phrases.
    • We will be taking an open book test on Chapter 3 in social studies this week.
    • An orange note is coming home with your child on Monday with ALL of the information to help get us through the next couple of weeks. There is a lot going on so please read carefully.
    • Parenting Night conferences have been scheduled for this Thursday, October 21. If you did not get a call from Mrs. Tillman and would like to schedule a conference with us, please let us know.
    • Report cards go out on Thursday, October 21. Please review your child's grade with them, sign, and return to school.
    • Please continue to send in candy for the OIS Trick or Treat night next Tuesday, October 25th.

    • We are working in Chapter 3 in social studies.
    • Continue to send in candy for the OIS Trick or Treat night which is Tuesday, October 25th.
    • Learning Earnings is up and running. Ask your child.
    • Think Central is up and running. Ask your child.
    • We are having a competition for Accelerated Reading tests. Ask your child.
    • We are having a Pizza Hut Book It competition. Ask your child. 
    • Mrs. Tillman and I are scheduling conferences for Parenting Night. Date and time TBA. Let me know if you would like to meet with us.

    • This week's spelling words are drizzle, gobble, meddle, shuffle, bundle, pickle, hobble, topple, hurtle,  vehicle, struggle, wiggle, spindle, speckle, griddle, ripple, article, triple, jingle, and bugle.
    • The grammar skill is compound subjects and predicates.
    • There will be a reading, spelling, and grammar test on Friday.
    • We will begin Chapter 3 in social studies this week.
    • Remember fall pictures are this Thursday, October 6. Students look your best!
    • We will be having an OIS trick or treat night this year, so please begin sending in bags of candy for our class.
    • A note went home on Monday about the PTO meeting on  Friday, October 7th from 9-10. Please come if you can!
    • If your child is still interested in the poster contest, send me a note and I will send home the additional information.
    • Please look over your child's agenda book and discipline folder every night. Encourage your child to always do their BEST at school!
    • Have your child read all the spare time they can! Practice makes perfect!
    • Review attendance policies in the code of conduct! 5 parent excuses is the limit! Please be at school if at all possible! Our class is trying to spell A-T-T-E-N-D-A-N-C-E!!!!!!

    September 26-30

    What a GREAT month of fun and learning we have had!
    • This week is reteach week, so there will be no reading story, no vocabulary words, or no spelling words.
    • We are still working on DOL daily, so there will be a DOL quiz on Friday as usual.
    • There will also be a reading quiz on Friday on two passages that cover our reviewed and retaught focus skills.
    • We will be completing chapter 2 in social studies this week and having the test toward the end of the week.
    • Thanks to all of the parents who came out for our OIS Open House last Tuesday night! It was GREAT to see everyone again. If you ever need me, please send me a note or an email!
    • We had a WONDERFUL book fair week last week! Big thanks to all the students and parents who sent money in for the money drive! I was able to purchase some super books for our classroom library!
    • Also a BIG thank you to Taylor and her mom for the neat book that yall purchased for our class! And another BIG thank you to one of my last year's students Claire and her mom for the 2 neat books that yall purchased for our class! That was SO sweet of you all!!!!
    • Thanks to ALL of the parents and grandparents who came out to eat lunch with your child! It was so wonderful to meet all of you!
    • Congrats to Haley for winning a place in the alien dress up contest! You were adorable Haley!
    • Remember if you need the additional information on the poster contest send me a note and I will get it to you and your child!
    • This week should be a much calmer week full or relearning and reteaching!
    • Congrats to our SCCHS marching band for the EXCELLENT job that yall did last Saturday night at competition! Way to go Best in Show Color Guard and Band!

    September 19-23

    • This week is Theme Test 1, so your child will not have a weekly story to read. Encourage your child to do well on the theme test. We break up the test and take it over 3 days. Encourage them to read and reread the passages.
    • There will be no vocabulary words this week.
    • This week's spelling words are review. They are stretch, cactus, measure, reason, coach, kneeling, twice, rayon, appoint, scoop, drawn, feud, jewel, fraud, royalty, hurried, scared, changing, buying, and obeyed
    • This week's grammar skills are review also. They are the 4 types of sentences and simple and complete subjects and predicates.
    • The students will still have DOL all week and a test on Friday. Please study the study guide that comes home on Thursday nights!
    • We will be completing Chapter 2 in social studies. We have been studying the first Americans. Chapter 2 test TBA!
    • We are going to have a busy week at OIS this week!
    • Book Fair runs all week Monday-Friday! Invite grandparents to come eat lunch with their grandchild and shop the book fair.
    • We will be having a money drive all week within our classroom to collect money for books! Monday is pennies! Tuesday is nickels! Wednesday is dimes! Thursday is quarters! And Friday is dollars!
    • Progress reports go home on Tuesday, September 20th! Please review your child's grades with them and sign and return by Friday, September 23rd! If you would like to talk with Mrs. Tillman, myself, or both, please send us a note and we will set up a conference.
    • OIS Open House is also Tuesday, September 20th from 5:30-7:30! Come see us!
    • Alien dress up day is Wednesday, September 21st! I have been working on my costume! Everyone knows I love to dress up!

    • This week's spelling words end with -ed or -ing. They are talked, hurried, smiling, dropped, clapping, stepped, worried, worrying, changing, stayed, buying, dried, picnicking, scared, driving, obeyed, playing, tried, carried, and hurrying.
    • This week's grammar skill is simple and complete subject and predicate.
    • Parents, please make sure your child studies the DOL study guide that comes home on Thursday nights. Everything that is on the DOL quiz is on that study guide or previous ones.
    • We completed Chapter 1 and the open book test last week. We also began DARE on Friday. The kids really loved it. Be sure to ask them what they are learning. We will begin Chapter 2 this week.

    • This week's spelling words are counter, fraud, oyster, appoint, drawn, awning, laundry, feud, shawl, jewel, royalty, powder, annoying, cashew, scoop, bamboo, browse, ointment, rooster, rescue. Shorter week and harder words. Please make sure your child is studying.
    • The grammar skill is subject and predicate. Also the DOL study guide goes home on Thursday night. Please make sure your child is studying.
    • There will be a reading, grammar, and spelling test on Friday.
    • We completed Chapter 1 in social studies last week. We will be completing the Chapter 1 open book test this week, beginning Chapter 2, and DARE starts on Friday.
    • Don't forget to join OIS PTO!

    We had a super week last week! Everyone worked hard and is getting into the school rountine again! Looking forward to another successful week of learning!

    • This week's focus skill is conflict and resolution.
    • This week's spelling words are needle, speech, reason, crease, their, fade, obtain, faint, steep, rayon, eager, shadow, saying, mild, coach, smoke, twice, human, teenage, and niece.
    • There will be a reading, spelling, and grammar test on Friday.
    • Don't forget to help your child study! The grammar study guide comes home on Thursday.
    • We are working on Chapter 1 in social studies. We will be finished this week. Chapter 1 test TBA in agenda books.
    • Graded papers will be returned on Tuesday.

    • The weekly focus skill is Plot: Conflict and Resolution.
    • This week's vocabulary words are humiliation, expectations, fringes, hesitating, sincere, and coaxed.
    • The weekly  grammar skill is complete sentences and sentence fragments; and also declarative and interrogative sentences.
    • This week's spelling words have a short vowel pattern: bandage, chest, drift, dull, dusk, stretch, flock, fond, measure, does, scrap, shift, smash, switch, swept, threat, timid, plaid, trust, and twist.
    • There will be a reading, spelling, and grammar test on Friday.
    • A study guide with all vocabulary words and their definitions and spelling words goes home every Monday.
    • Encourage your child to reread the weekly story nightly and study vocabulary and spelling words. 

    Great 1st week!

    We had a GREAT 1st week of school! The kids were super behaved and listened carefully to the classroom rules, rountines, and procedures.
    Hopefully everyone received my welcome letter and placed it in a safe place to use for future reference.
    We had an extra treat Friday afternoon with Chris Rumble coming to perform. Pictures coming soon!
