    • There will be a reading test on Friday, November 15th. It will consist of comprehension questions and vocabulary sentences from this week's story. It will also contain a poem and 4 imagery questions. The students will also complete an imagery chart that will be provided for them on Tuesday the 12th. Please make sure your child is studying this information. 
    • There will be grammar quiz on similes, metaphors, and personification on Friday, November 15th also.
    • Last week's tests go home on Tuesday, November 12th.
    • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it by Friday the 15th. 
    • Most all 5th graders are doing a great job writing in their Dear Mrs. Williams notebooks about their library books. Please ask your child about their notebooks.

  • There will be a reading test on Thursday, November 7th because of the Fall Festival on the 8th. It will consist of a passage and identifying the correct sense. There will be a personification with review of similes and metaphors grammar quiz on Thursday also.

  • Homework goes home on Mondays. The homework is not due until Fridays. Homework is not required, but can be bonus points on their test grades. If your child chooses not to complete the homework, I still need them to return the homework sheet and the copy of the story on Friday.

  • There is a reading/grammar test on Friday. It will consist of a cold read passage including problem/solution questions and idiom questions, comprehension questions about Line Drive and vocabulary sentences.

    August 19-23

    First off I would like to thank you all for such a great first week of school. All the students were very well behaved and very responsible in getting all of the paperwork signed and returned.

  • We are running a regular routine this week, so if you have any questions please let me know!
  • This week's reading story is Rope Burn.
  • This week's reading standard is conflict, plot, and resolution.
  • This week's vocabulary words are
  • humiliation: a feeling of shame or embarrassment
    fringes: the fringes of a place are areas along its edges, far away from the center of action
    expectations: hopes about how well others will do or about how they should behave
    sincere: if you are being sincere, you are being honest, and you mean what you say
    coaxed: if you are coaxed into doing something, you are gently talked into it by someone else
    hesitating: if your are hesitating you are pausing before doing something because you are feeling unsure
