January 28-February 1


  • This week's reading standard is the review of making inferences.
  • This week's grammar skill is also the review of 4 types of sentences.

  • Homework goes home on Monday, January 28th and is due on Friday, February 1st. Remember homework is optional, but if correct, bonus points will be rewarded.

    • Reading tests from last Friday will go home on Tuesday, January 29th. If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 or below) I have stamped the test sign and return. Please do so by Friday, February 1st.
    • There will be a reading test on Friday, February 1st. It will consist of comprehension questions involving making inferences.
    • There will also be a grammar test on Friday, February 1st on 4 types of sentences.
    • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.

    DARE Graduation: Tuesday, January 29th at 6:00

    Remember students are only allowed 10 parent excuses for the WHOLE year. After 10 parent excuses, students will not be allowed to make up ANY missed work or tests.

  • This week's story is Nothing EVER Happens on 90th Street.
  • This week's vocabulary words are
  • hiatus: a break for a period of time
    embarked: beginning a new adventure
    unimaginable: impossible to think that something might happen
    extravagant: costly and elaborate
    gourmet: expensive and rare food
    throng: a crowd of people
    precarious: a situation that is uncertain and can be dangerous
  • This week's focus skill is making inferences.
  • This week's grammar skill is 4 types of sentences.

  • Homework goes home on Tuesday, January 22nd and is due on Friday, January 25th. Remember homework is optional, but if correct, bonus points will be rewarded. For the rest of the year, I will only be sending home the homework with the students who tell me they plan on doing it. I am losing dozens of copies of homework that these students are taking, not completing, and not returning my copy.

    January 14-18

    This is review week. We will be reviewing the reading standard of imagery and the grammar standard of subject/verb agreement.

    Homework goes home on Monday, January 14th and is due on Friday, January 18th. Remember homework is optional, but if correct, bonus points will be rewarded. For the rest of the year, I will only be sending home the homework with the students who tell me they plan on doing it. I am losing dozens of copies of homework that these students are taking, not completing, and not returning my copy. 
    • Reading tests from last Friday will go home on Tuesday, January 15th. If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 or below) I have stamped the test sign and return. Please do so by Friday, January 18th.
    • There will be a reading test on Friday, January 18th. It will consist of a cold read passage where the student must match the imagery example correctly with one of the five senses.
    • There will be a grammar test also on Friday, January 18th on subject verb agreement.
    • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.

    January 7-11

    Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break. Thanks so much for all of the wonderful Christmas gifts.     ******Remember if your child is absent, I need a parent's or doctor's excuse when they return.   • This week's story is Any Small Goodness.
  • This week's vocabulary words are
  • gouges: a deep cut or dent into something
    desolate: a lonely and sad person

    bustles: moving about in a busy, energetic way
    fervor: speaking with great emotion and strong belief
    immaculate: extremely clean and tidy
    assuage: to make guilt less painful and troubling

It will also contain a poem and 4 imagery questions. The students will also complete an imagery chart that will be provided for them on Monday the 7th. Please make sure your child is studying this information. .

    Report Cards go home on Monday, January 7th. Please review, sign, and return the report cards by Friday, January 11th.
