October 15-19

Hope everyone enjoyed the nice Fall Break.
  • This week's story is Sailing Home: A Story of a Childhood at Sea.
  • Homework goes home on Monday but is not due until Friday. Remember homework is optional but if correct; bonus points are rewarded.
  • This week's focus skill is Compare and Contrast. 
  • This week's vocabulary words are:    
  • dignified: calm, serious, respectful behavior 
  • rowdy: noisy, rough, out of control behavior 
  • seldom: hardly ever happens 
  • conducted: led or guided an activity 
  • shatter: break suddenly and violently 
  • broached: a ship has veered onto its side 
  • inflammable: catches on fire easily and burns rapidly
  • This week's grammar skill is simile, metaphor, and personification.
  • There will be a reading test on Friday, October 19th. It will consist of a cold read passage and question set, comprehension questions about Sailing Home, and vocabulary sentences.
  • Last week's tests went home on Friday, October 12th.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return. Please ask your student daily if they need anything signed. Tests from the other classes also require to be signed and returned for D and F grades.
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, grades, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc.   
  • Let me know if you need me in any way!
Coming Up Soon:
  • Field trip information goes home on Monday, October 15th.
  • Report Cards go home, Monday, October 15th. Please review, sign, and return as soon as possible. If you need a conference with any of the 4 teachers, send a note on the report card and we will contact you with a time.
  • Wear RED on Monday, October 15th for dyslexia awareness.
  • Candy Crash: Tuesday, October 30th from 6:00-7:00. Please send in individually wrapped candy.
  • Red Ribbon/Homecoming Dress Up Days information will also go home on Monday, October 15th.
  • Special Snack is Wednesday, October 17th. Everything is $1.00.
     

  • Please send to school with your child an inexpensive pair of head phones or ear buds for computer lab. Thanks to everyone who has already sent them in.


Remember if your child is absent, I need a parent's or doctor's excuse when they return.
