September 29-October 3

This week's story is When the Circus Came to Town.
  • This week's genre is historical fiction.
  • This week's focus skill is theme.
  • This week's vocabulary words are fret, proclaimed, assured, outlandish, nudged, and ruckus.
  • This week's spelling words are suppose, hurricane, ballad, bellow, success, appeal, announcer, tissue, excellent, terrific, collect, slippery, common, arrange, suffer, follow, kennel, squirrel, message, and summary.
  • This week's grammar skill is simple and compound sentences.
  • We are working on Week 8 in social studies this week.
  • There will be a social studies test on Thursday.
  • There will be a reading, spelling, and grammar test on Friday.
  • Last week's tests come home on Tuesday.
  • If your child makes a D (60-69) or an F (59 and below), please sign the test and return it the next day.  .
  • Please check agenda books daily!
  • Your child has reading vocabulary homework and story questions.
  • Your child has spelling homework this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. Homework is listed in the agenda books! 
  • School pictures are on Tuesday, September 30th.
  • I will be sending a note home about our 1st field trip. Be on the lookout!
  • Please continue to talk with your child about their school work, homework, conduct, notes from the school/teachers, etc. Some of the students are still struggling getting organized!

    September 22-25

  • This week  we will begin Theme 2 Common Goals in reading.
  • This week's story is The Night of San Juan.
  • This week's vocabulary words are wistful, grateful, irresistible, revelers, grim, raspy, and swarmed.
  • This week's focus skills is Theme.
  • This week's spelling words are drizzle, gobble, meddle, shuffle, bundle, pickle, hobble, topple, hurtle,  vehicle, struggle, wiggle, spindle, speckle, griddle, ripple, article, triple, jingle, and bugle.
  • The grammar skill is compound subjects and predicates.
  • There will be a reading, spelling, and grammar test on Friday.
  • There is homework listed in the agenda book for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights.
  • We will begin lesson 7 in social studies this week.
  • Please look over your child's agenda book and discipline folder every night. Encourage your child to always do their BEST at school!
  • Have your child read all the spare time they can! Practice makes perfect! 
  • Please be at school if at all possible! Our class is trying to spell A-T-T-E-N-D-A-N-C-E!!!!!!

    September 8-12

  • This week is Theme Week. This week's story is It Takes Talent!
  • This week's vocabulary words are genial, prognostication, stricken, dramatically, restrain, protest, feverishly, overcome, flop, and spectacular.
  • This week's spelling words are review. They are stretch, cactus, measure, reason, coach, steep, twice, rayon, appoint, scoop, drawn, feud, jewel, fraud, royalty, hurried, scared, changing, buying, and obeyed
  • This week's grammar skills are review also. They are the 4 types of sentences and simple and complete subjects and predicates.
  • We will be completing week 5 in social studies. I gave credit on last week's social studies test for 2 of the questions that the majority of the class missed. That is why there are 2 different grades on the test.
  • Your child has homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. PLEASE check agenda books and make sure that their homework is complete and back in their binders.
  • Graded test papers will go home on Tuesday.
  •  School dismisses at 1:00 this Thursday, September 11th.
  • Progress reports go home on Thursday, September 18th! Please review your child's grades with them and sign and return by Friday, September 19th! If you would like to talk with Mrs. Tillman, myself, or both, please send us a note and we will set up a conference.
  •  Saints t-shirts are on sale for $12.00. A note came home last Friday.

  • This week's story is "The Daring Nellie Bly: America's Star Reporter".
  • This week's focus skill is character motives.
  • This week's vocabulary words are eccentric, crusaded, impassable, infuriated, relented, disheartened, and faze.
  • This week's spelling words end with -ed or -ing. They are talked, hurried, smiling, dropped, clapping, stepped, worried, worrying, changing, stayed, buying, dried, picnicking, scared, driving, obeyed, playing, tried, carried, and hurrying.
  • This week's grammar skill is simple and complete subject and predicate.
  • Your child has homework in my class every night except Wednesdays. PLEASE check agenda books.
  • We will be working on week 4 of USA Studies Weekly. Lots of 100s this past week.
  • We will begin DARE this week.
